Meet the ILCA mentors
Carmen has joined the ILCA Mentorship Programme, a 12‑month journey designed to support early‑career professionals working in basic, translational, or clinical research related to liver cancer. This programme connects mentees with internationally recognized investigators and physicians, offering guidance that is both academically grounded and personally meaningful.

Girls Tech Summit

Carmen attended the Girls Tech Summit at the Hong Kong Metropolitan University to share her experience with more than 200 female highschool students.

YASHK 明師高徒 Opening ceremony
22nd March, 2026
Carmen attended the opening ceremony of “Distinguished Master, Accomplished Students” Mentorship Programme" held on 22nd March. It is a programme launched to nurture the next generation of talent to sustain Hong Kong’s momentum and continued success in innovation and technology. To this end, The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences (ASHK), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering (HKAE), the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS), and the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (YASHK), will launch the eighth cohort of the “Distinguished Master, Accomplished Students” Mentorship Programme in 2026, building on the achievements of the previous seven cohorts. This eighth cycle of the Programme will run from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

High School Students' Visit

A class of enthusiastic high school students came to visit our lab to experience life as a researcher. Our team members have showed them around our lab and the experiments we have on a daily basis. What a meaningful afternoon!

RTHK interview

Carmen has been interviewed by RTHK to discuss about relationship between steatotic liver and HCC. She highlights that fatty liver disease—often linked to obesity and poor diet—increases liver cancer risk and may affect how patients respond to immunotherapy. She encourages young scientists to persevere through challenges, emphasizing that "we persist not because we see hope, but because we persist, we see hope."
